Athletics are an integral part of the educational process at Rhode Island School for the Deaf. Competitive sports offer a unique opportunity for our students to develop a positive self image. The aim of the program is to develop highly competitive athletes while emphasizing important values such as teamwork, sportsmanship, commitment, fitness and scholastic achievement. Our athletic teams compete with hearing schools in RI Coastal Prep and with deaf schools from the ESDAA.
The athletic program encourages students, parents, staff, and the adult deaf community to become active participants as team members or spectators thus promoting a high level of school morale and spirit. We recognize that competition and tournaments contribute greatly to the social development of the deaf and hard of hearing. The following varsity sports are offered: Soccer, Basketball, and Track & Field.
